erin’s therapy approach and training

I approach therapy as an opportunity to be trusted with a person, couple, or family’s inner and outer worlds. When I’m in the room with you, my attention and energy is focused on understanding you, supporting you, and challenging you.

My clients appreciate my direct communication style, my tendency toward being transparent and collaborative, and my sense of humor. My job is not to tell you who you are; it is to help you get to who you want to be.

My therapy approach is heavily informed by family systems theories, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I have additionally completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I use a trauma-informed and trauma-competent approach to all therapy I provide.

I am rooted in the belief that all humans are valuable, worthy, and deserving of respect and equal treatment. I am a sex-positive, poly- and kink-friendly therapist. I regularly engage in formal and informal education regarding anti-racism and anti-bias.

My experience as a therapist has been predominantly in agency or group practice settings, providing services to a wide range of ages and clinical concerns. I am experienced and qualified to assess for and diagnose common mental health conditions. I have experience both as a clinician as well as an administrator, providing management to intensive outpatient programs and operating in a leadership role.

erin’s supervision approach and training

My supervision philosophy leads me to meet you developmentally. I strive to help you build confidence in yourself, to help you learn valuable and necessary skills, and to support you in the the sometimes nail-biting experience of being a pre-licensed therapist.

I meet the requirements to perform duties as a Washington State Supervisor as specified in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC 246-809-134). My experience providing clinical supervision has been both through ongoing supervision of pre-licensed therapists in an agency setting as well as in an internship classroom setting with bachelor’s level therapists pursuing their master’s degrees in marriage, couple, and family therapy. I additionally have experience in a teaching capacity with The Graduate School of Education and Counseling at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, providing clinical skills education to first year graduate students.
